All systems go for Pocket Rocketman to launch his Tokyo campaign

Malaysia’s track cycling coach is satisfied with the preparations by Datuk Azizulhasni Awang and Shah Firdaus Sahrom ahead of the start of their Tokyo Olympics campaign.

John Beasley says things are looking good so far.

“I’m really happy with where my guys are at. It is where I expected them to be and we’re right on target. Plus we ‘ve still got a few more days to freshen up and get faster”

The Malaysian riders will begin their challenge in Tokyo in the men’s individual sprint qualifying tomorrow, while the Keirin event starts on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Azizul says he’s already gotten used to his brand new custom bike.

The Pocket Rocketman, however, realises that having a high-tech machine does not mean that he can take things easy, and knows that he will have to work hard against the other top riders.

Nur Dhabitah Sabri wants more young Malaysian girls to take up diving.

The 22-year-old is hoping her achievements in Tokyo will inspire the next generation of divers to not only try their hand at the sport, but to excel at it.

Dhabitah did the country proud recently by finishing fourth in the women’s 3m springboard final.

Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen has won the badminton men’s singles gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

The world number two defeated defending champion Chen Long of China in straight sets.

Axelsen is the first non-Asian man to win the singles title since 1996.
