Kompany retires

Vincent Kompany has called time on his playing career.

The defender left Man City in May last year, to become player player-manager at Belgian club Anderlecht.

His retirement beans he will focus on his managerial duties full-time.

Lionel Messi has reportedly told Barcelona that he wants to leave the club this summer.

According to Spanish media, Messi is frustrated over the team's fortunes this season; having surrendered the La Liga title to Real Madrid, before their humiliating Champions League loss to Bayern Munich.

The Argentine has been linked with Man City and Inter Milan.

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara. 

It's believed that the Spaniard has agreed a 4-year contract with the EPL champions, but the financial details are unclear for now.

All that's left now is for the two clubs to negotiate a transfer fee. 

Once completed, Thiago will be Liverpool's 2nd signing of the season, after buying left-back Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos.
