Malaysia’s Chow Mei Kuan and Lee Meng Yean have picked up their first win at the Tokyo Olympics.
They defeated Great Britain’s Chloe Birch and Lauren Smith in straight sets, in their final group match of the women’s badminton doubles this morning.
However, it was not enough for the Malaysian pair to book a place in the quarterfinals, after losing their previous two matches.
There was also good news for Soniia Cheah, who has been awarded a walkover ahead of her women’s singles opening match against Laura Sarosi, after the Hungarian pulled out of the match due to injury.

Meanwhile, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik need to win their final group game against their Canadian opponents this evening...to stand a chance of making the quarterfinals.
The men’s doubles shuttlers had won their opening game, but lost to Indonesia’s Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan yesterday.

All eyes will be on Pandelela Rinong and Leong Mun Yee, as they begin their quest for Malaysia’s first medal of the Tokyo Olympics today.
The duo will be in action in the 10m platform synchro final, which is scheduled for 2pm Malaysian time.
Despite having the hopes of the nation on their shoulders, national coach Christian Brooker believes Pandelela and Mun Yee are experienced enough to handle the pressure, adding that both appear calm before the final.
