euro 2024: italy break croatian hearts

Holders Italy left it late to secure their spot in the Euro 2024 knockout round, needing an injury-time equalizer to salvage a 1-1 draw with Croatia.

It sends the Azzurri through to the last-16 as Group B runners-up.

The match also saw Luka Modric become the oldest goal-scorer at the European Championships, netting Croatia’s opener just two and a half months shy of his 39th birthday.

Meanwhile, Spain maintained their 100 percent record, beating Albania 1-0 to advance as Group B winners.

They also made it out of the group stage without conceding a single goal.

-

Elsewhere at the Euros… Robert Lewandowski says he wants to continue playing for Poland beyond this year’s competition.

Questions have been raised about the 35-year-old’s international future…after Poland failed to advance to the last-16.

-

Carlos Sainz has hinted that he could make a decision about his F1 future before this weekend’s Austrian GP.

The outgoing Ferrari driver is currently considering his options… with Williams, Sauber and Alpine all possible destinations for him next season.

-

And, Novak Djokovic says he will only play at this year’s Wimbledon if he can compete for the title…with his participation still in doubt as he recovers from a knee injury.
