Tottenham Are Europa League Champions!
May 22, 2025

Tottenham’s long and painful trophy drought is finally over.
The London club are Europa League champions after beating Man United 1-0 in the final in Bilbao.
It was a scrappy affair, with Brennan Johnson’s first-half strike separating the two sides.
For Spurs, it gave them their first piece of silverware in 17 years, having last lifted a trophy when they beat Chelsea in the 2008 League Cup final.
It was also their first European title in 41 years after their win over Anderlecht in the 1984 UEFA Cup final.
Crucially, their Europa League triumph earns them an automatic place in next season’s Champions League, something they would never have achieved with their current EPL position (17th).
It also extends Spurs’ winning streak against Man United this season, having already beaten the Red Devils twice in the Premiership and once in the League Cup.
As for United, their loss in Bilbao continues a dismal run in European finals.
They’ve now finished as runners up on four of their last five appearances – twice in the Champions League in 2009 and 2011, and twice in the Europa League in 2021 and this morning.
Ironically, before their defeat to Tottenham, United were the only team to remain unbeaten in Europe this season.
Across all competitions, the Red Devils have lost 21 games this campaign – their most defeats in a single season since 1974.
They’ll now end the season empty handed, with no trophies and a record-low finish in the EPL.
It also means they will miss out on European football next season for the first time since the 2014/2015 campaign.
