Anguish at Anfield

Feb 22, 2023

Real Madrid have one foot firmly in the Champions League quarterfinals after thumping Liverpool 5-2 in their last-16 first leg tie at Anfield this morning.

Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema netted a brace each, while Eder Militao scored in between.

Benzema has also now equalled Lionel Messi’s record of scoring in 18 consecutive Champions League seasons.

Real have now become the first visiting team to score five goals at Anfield in a European competition.

In another Champions League last 16 first leg... Napoli enjoyed a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.

-

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has been discharged from the hospital.

The Spanish defender suffered a concussion during their 1-0 EPL defeat to Southampton last weekend.

—-

West Ham manager David Moyes will reportedly be sacked if the Hammers fail to win their EPL tie with Nottingham Forest this weekend.

West Ham are currently just two points off the bottom of the EPL standings.

-

Man United reportedly have no intention of keeping on-loan striker Wout Weghorst permanently at the club, despite his decent work rate.

-

And sources say PSG are in the midst of replacing their current manager, with ex-Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard, and former manager Thomas Tuchel among the possible candidates.
