Lucky Spurs Win UCL Opener

Tottenham have had a lucky start to their Champions League campaign, capitalizing on an early own goal by Villareal to beat the Spanish side 1-0 this morning.
This was Spurs’ first appearance in Europe’s top club competition since the 2022/2023 season.
In other selected results, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard scored for Arsenal in their 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.
Kylian Mbappe scored both goals as Real Madrid defeated Marseille 2-1.
While Juventus scored in injury-time to salvage a 4-4 draw with Borussia Dortmund.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa have crashed out of the EFL Cup…losing to Brentford in a penalty shootout after their third-round tie ended 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

Closer to home…JDT let a one-goal lead slip, as the Southern Tigers fell to a 2-1 defeat to Thailand’s Buriram United…in their opening game at the Asian Champions League Elite.

Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai have made a strong start at the China Badminton Masters, with wins over their respective first round opponents.
