Real Madrid have kicked off the new European football season with a bang, after beating Atalanta 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup.  

Real's goals were scored by Federico Valverde and Kylian Mbappe, who made his Real debut after joining them from PSG.  

The win means they have now won the competition for a record 6 times, one more than Barcelona and AC Milan,  

It was also boss Carlo Ancelotti’s 14th trophy for Real.  

This comes days before Real kick off their La Liga title defence against Mallorca.

The National Cycling Federation wants the government to maintain the Road to Gold programnme. 

It says this will ensure that our athletes can compete at the highest international levels. 

The federation also pointed out that our track cyclists had exceeded their expecations at the recent Paris Olympics. 

Datuk Azizulhasni Awang and Nurul Izzah Izzati had both set new national records in the Sprint event,m while Shah Firdaus Sahrom came close to taking the Keirin bronze medal.

Several more gold medals will be up for grabs today at the 2024 Sukma Games in Sarawak, in events including Wushu and Cycling.  

This, as Melaka currently leads the overall standings with two gold medals, both in Wushu.
