Max Verstappen is the new Formula One world champion!

The Red Bull driver won last night’s season-ending Abu Dhabi GP…taking advantage of a late safety car to overtake title-rival Lewis Hamilton on the last lap.

It ensured a maiden title for Verstappen…who finished the season eight-points ahead of Hamilton.

Mercedes subsequently lodged two protests over how officials handled the race under the safety car…but both protests were dismissed.

The latest reports say they intend to try again with one final appeal.

Real Madrid have taken an 8-point lead at the top of La Liga.

They defeated neighbours and defending champions Atletico 2-nil in the Madrid derby this morning.

Real’s goals came from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio…to give them a seventh league win in a row.

Man United have reported several Covid-19 infections involving players and staff.

The positive tests were detected as the players reported in for Sunday training.

United’s next match against Brentford in midweek could also be in doubt, if more infections are detected.
