Atletico Sign Alvarez From City

Aug 13, 2024

atletico sign alvarez from city

Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Man City striker Julian Alvarez.

He joins the Spanish club on a six-year deal worth 81.5 million pounds.

Alvarez won six major trophies during his two-year spell with City…but was only their second-choice striker behind Erling Haaland.

The transfer is also a record sale for City – surpassing the 50 million pounds they received for selling Raheem Sterling to Chelsea.

-

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer are among those nominated for the PFA’s Young Player of the Year award.

Man United duo Kobie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho also made the six-man shortlist.

-

Five-time British Olympic medalist Tom Daley has confirmed his retirement from diving at the age of 30.

Daley first competed at the 2008 Games at the age of 14…and went on to win medals of every colour.

-

Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik have yet to make a decision about the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Wooi Yik says this is not something they’re thinking about at the moment, adding that they’re focused on their immediate commitments.

Meanwhile, Wooi Yik’s injury has also forced the Paris Games bronze medalists to pull out of next week’s Japan Badminton Open.

-

In a related development… coaching director Rexy Mainaky is refusing to comment on speculation that Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani are quitting the BAM to become professional shuttlers.
