What A Crazy Weekend It's Been In The EPL

Nov 11, 2024

what a crazy weekend it's been in the epl

Football fans all know by now that the EPL is by far the most entertaining league in the world.

But this past weekend provided real value for money with a string of upsets, shock results and key milestones.

Defending league champions Man City got the ball rolling on Saturday, falling to a shock 2-1 defeat away to Brighton.

It capped a remarkably poor run of results for Pep Guardiola’s side…who’ve now lost four games in a row across all competitions.

This is the first time since 2006 the Citizens have lost four on the trot, and the first time in Guardiola’s long and illustrious career that he’s suffered four successive defeats.

It allowed Liverpool to capitalize, with the leaders romping to a 2-0 win over Aston Villa to open up a five-point lead at the top of the table.

And while City can’t seem to buy a win at the moment, the Reds on the other hand have won 15 games in all competitions since the arrival of Arne Slot.

Fellow title hopefuls Arsenal are not faring any better. The Gunners’ 1-1 draw with Chelsea means they’re now without a win in five games, and nine points adrift of Liverpool in the standings.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom, though.

Man United are finally back to winning ways, beating Leicester 3-0 for their first league victory in three games.

Captain Bruno Fernandes was among the scorers, on what was his 250th appearance for the Red Devils.

It was also the perfect send-off for interim boss Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who leaves after stabilizing the ship following the departure of Erik Ten Hag.

Nistelrooy leaves with a record of three wins and a draw ahead of the arrival of new manager Ruben Amorim this week.

Special mention also goes to Wolves, who picked up their first win of the season in the 2-0 victory over Southampton.

Similarly, Ipswich won their first league match of the season and their first in the Premier League in 22 years by edging past Tottenham 2-1.

Here’s hoping for more thrills, spills and drama when the Premier League returns on November 23rd after the international break.
