No Sprint Final For Azizul, Shah Firdaus
Aug 08, 2024
Track cyclists Datuk Azizulhasni Awang and Shah Firdaus Sahrom are out of the men’s individual sprint event at the Paris Olympics.
Azizul missed out on a spot in the quarterfinals after losing in the repechage for the last eight…while his compatriot exited in the earlier elimination round.
Shah Firdaus is looking on the bright side, saying this gives them more time to prepare for their preferred Keirin event.
Meanwhile, fellow Malaysian Nurul Izzah Izzati missed out on a quarterfinal spot in the women’s Keirin, after crashing out in the repechage round.

As for the other Malaysians in action… national diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri has made the semifinals of the women’s 3m springboard event.
She finished 12th out of 28 divers…with only the top 18 advancing.
-
While Mohamad Aniq Kasdan narrowly missed out on a medal in the 61kg men’s weightlifting event at the Paris Olympics
He had to settle for a fourth-place finish, falling just one kilogram short of a bronze.

Elsewhere in Paris…newly-crowned 100m champion Noah Lyles of the USA has made the final of the 200m event… as he attempts to become the first man since Usain Bolt to complete an Olympic sprint double.
