Diogo Jota, Gone Too Soon
Jul 03, 2025

It's a sad day for football fans.
Liverpool's Diogo Jota has died in a car crash in Spain, alongside his brother.
Authorities say the Portugal international was travelling with him before the car left the road due to a tyre blow out and was engulfed in flames.
Tributes have been pouring in since the heartbreaking news.
The Portuguese FA says the forward was respected by teammates and opponents alike.
The federation adds that it's already asked UEFA for a minute's silence later this week, before the country's match against Spain in the Women's European Championship.
Fellow Portugal national team member Cristiano Ronaldo has paid his tributes via social media.
Liverpool have also released an official statement, adding that they're devastated by Jota's tragic passing.
The Reds also requested that fans respect his family's privacy as they try to come to terms with the loss.
Meanwhile, several other clubs have paid their respects, including Man City, Man United, Chelsea, and Tottenham among others.
The English Football Association and Premier League also described the tragedy as devastating, adding that football has lost a champion.
Fans have also started gathering outside Anfield, laying floral tributes and paying respects at the Hillsborough memorial.
Jota began his career with a Portuguese club before joining Atletico Madrid in 2016.
He reached the pinnacle of his football career for both club and country this season, winning the Premier League title with Liverpool and helping Portugal to victory in the final of the Uefa Nations League.
His honours with the Reds also included one FA Cup and two EFL Cup winners' medals.
On the international scene, he scored 14 goals in 49 appearances for Portugal.
Jota was aged 28.
