Free breakfast programme is not just about food!
Aug 27, 2019
The government's move to provide free breakfast to all primary school children beginning January next year is not just about food!
The Education Minister says it is also about nutrition, discipline and good eating habits.
It also promotes civic consciousness, as the students will eat with their teachers, and must clean up after themselves.
He says the idea was mooted by the Prime Minister following his observation in Japan that school children there were provided free meals to ensure they have enough nutrition.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry says it will closely monitor the free food programme's implementation, to make sure that the meals are nutritious.
The plan is to offer the meals to some 2.7 million primary school kids nationwide.
Stop speculating about the recent systems outage at KLIA
The Transport Minister has urged people to stop speculating about the network failure that triggered the systems outage at KLIA last week.
He says it is premature to link the incident to cyberattacks or acts of malicious intent.
A committee has been set up to investigate the failure and recommend measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
The Minister says the committee will call up all the authorities, who had access to all areas in the airport to assist in the investigation.
Separately, Malaysia Airports Holdings has lodged a police report on the network failure that caused the recent system disruptions at the airport.
Police say say it will be investigated under the Penal Code for sabotage.
Malaysia Airports earlier said it has not ruled out the possibility that it was caused by those with ill intent.
30,000 warning letters issued over smoking ban
To date, over 30 thousand warning letters have been issued to smokers for lighting up at restaurants and eateries.
The Health Ministry says enforcement officers have inspected nearly 130 thousand premises so far.
Full enforcement of the smoking ban will come into effect in January next year.
Meanwhile, the ministry says smokers caught violating the ban may be ordered to do community service, instead of getting fined.
It says community work, like picking up litter or cleaning public toilets will bring greater benefit to society.
