Govt files civil forfeiture application for 1MDB-linked funds

The MACC has filed a civil forfeiture application against 41 individuals and entities, to recover 270 million ringgit linked to 1MDB.
Its chief commissioner Latheefa Koya this was mande under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, which allows for such forfeitures, even before an individual is charged in court.
The respondents named in the suit include UMNO, as well as other political parties, foundations and companies.
Separately, the MACC has set up a joint task force to recover 5 billion dollars worth of funds linked to 1MDB and SRC International, that were stashed across the world.
The MACC says the task force includes officers from the commission, as well as the the National Financial Crimes Centre.
It will be led by the Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre.

The suspect in the brutal Valentines Day robbery at an MRT station elevator in Cheras has been sentenced to 18 years jail and 5 strokes of the cane.
He was caught on video attacking and robbing a woman, who suffered multiple injuries to her head and body.
The incident sparked nationwide outrage, and prompted authorities to step up security at all MRT stations.
