Port plastic predicament
Apr 25, 2019
Transport Minister Anthony Loke says the smuggling of dirty plastics in Malaysia has to be stopped, but closing our ports is not the solution.
"Banning ships is definitely not one of the measures. I want to stress that Malaysia, especially the Ministry of Transport, we're working hard, continuously meeting with all the international shipping liners, asking them to come to Malaysia. We want to make our ports as competitive as possible."
Commenting on the 24 containers of dirty plastic found at Port Klang last month, Anthony Loke said the Ministry will review port procedures and tighten rules on what can be brought in.
