There aren't enough women in the workforce
Mar 08, 2019
While the government has done a lot to promote women's rights, they still face widespread discrimination in Malaysia.
Suhakam says this is especially in the work place, with only 54 per cent of women participating in the workforce, compared to 80 per cent of men.
On top of that, women only make up 22 per cent of management and senior roles, while they only comprise of a quarter of board members in Malaysia's top companies.
Cabinet Minister Yeo Bee Yin agrees that women are greatly under-represented in the workforce.
She says that's why the government has launched several initiatives to deal with these inequalities.
This includes providing childcare facilities for working mothers.

MH370, five years on
The families of those on board MH370 have made a renewed call to the government, to resume the search for the missing plane.
In an interview on LITE, Jacquita Gonzales, wife of MH370's in-flight supervisor says this will give them some form of closure.
"If they find the plane, I don't expect them to bring it up. I just need to know where it is. If they can find out the reason why. Bring up the black box, if it still works. But I'm sure they can do that with today's technology. From 2014 to 2019 it has improved tremendously."
Today is the fifth anniversary of MH370's disappearance.
