We might be seeing a steep decrease in the number of expats in Malaysia soon.

The government is thinking about not issuing work visas anymore to expats who earn below RM10,000.

As a first step, they're targeting Category 3 skilled workers, who earn below RM5,000 a month, such as chefs and technicians.

The Human Resources Minister says fewer people are applying for these visas, while the government is also confident locals can take on and handle these jobs.

The Semenyih by-election, which was called for after its incumbent passed away, will be a 4-cornered fight between Pakatan, BN, PSM and an independent activist.
