Minimum wage system may be revised

The government may revise the minimum wage system, with a different rate for different sectors. 

The Human Resources Minister says the current rate applies across the board, and some businesses are finding it too high.

As a result, they've had to lay off workers or close some outlets.

Several common groceries to be price-controlled

Instant noodles, eggs, soy sauce and diapers could join the list of government price-controlled items, alongside rice and sugar.

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry says its talking to supermarkets to find out the 30 most common items bought by low income-earners. 

It also told the Malaysian Insight that the government may also temporarily suspend exports of locally farmed produce and sea harvests when yields are low.

This is to ensure domestic supply.

Kota Kemuning restaurant owner apologises for fish-slamming incident

The owner of a restaurant in Kota Kemuning, Selangor has apologised, after a video of its workers smashing fish onto a back-alley road went viral.

In a Facebook post, the owner said all their foreign workers were properly trained in food handling, but the worker in that video failed to follow procedures.

The restaurant will also install CCTVs in the kitchen and in the back alley to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Police arrest two more in Cambodian job scam case

Three people are now in custody over the job scam, that caused 47 Malaysians to be detained in Cambodia. 

Sarawak police say they detained two suspects, believed to be the masterminds, in Kuching yesterday evening.

They will be remanded, if police cannot wrap up investigations within 24 hours.

Earlier, police arrested and remanded a 35-year-old man over the case.
