Tabling of Sexual Harassment Bill postponed
Feb 11, 2019
The government still expects to table the Sexual Harassment Bill this year.
The bill was supposed to be tabled in the next parliamentary session, which starts next month.
However, the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry says it's been postponed, as it is still examining a just-completed feasibility study on the bill.
Its Deputy Minister Hannah Yeoh says it's necessary, to make sure that the proposed Act is comprehensive and covers a wide scope.
Earlier, the Ministry said that the bill will cover harassment in all spaces, including the workplace, universities and public spaces.
The bill also hopes to speed up the investigation process of harassment cases, in order reduce the trauma faced by victims.
Besides next month's sitting, Parliament will also be in session in July, and from October to December.
