Govt expects more schools to close as API continues to rise

The Education Ministry expects more schools to close as the Air Pollutant Index continues to rise.

Almost 700 schools have been ordered to close in 5 states due to the haze.

This was after air quality readings passed the 'very unhealthy' level of over 200 in Selangor, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Perak and Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Sri Aman, Sarawak had a 'Hazardous' air quality of over 400.

At last look, the only states not affected by the haze are Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Terengganu, Kelantan and Sabah.

American woman becomes first person to swim English Channel four times

An American breast cancer survivor has become the first person to swim the English Channel four times non-stop.

Sarah Thomas completed the challenge in about 54 hours, a year after completing her treatment for the disease. 

The open water ultra marathon swimmer dedicated her swim to all cancer survivors out there. 

Hong Kong leader says public dialogue aimed at easing tensions to begin next week

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam says her administration will begin public dialogue sessions next week, to ease political tensions following months of violent protests. 

The sessions will be as open as possible and members of the public will be able to sign up to attend.

Hong Kong has seen over 3 months of protests triggered by the soon-to-be-withdrawn extradition bill, which would have allowed fugitives to be transferred to China.
