Automatic Voter Registration is still a ways off
Jul 18, 2019
You shouldn't wait until the automatic voter registration system kicks in, if you want to sign up as a new voter.
Earlier this week, Parliament approved a bill to amend the constition, to lower the voting age and introduce automatic voter registration.
However, the Election Commission says it will take at least one and a half years for the new system to be implemented, as it needs to set up the necessary infrastructure first.
So if you want to register, you might as well do it now.
To make things easer, the EC has launched a new portal that allows people to register as voters online.
All you will need is Internet access on your computer or mobile phone, a valid phone number and email address, the front image of your MyKad and a selfie with your Mykad.
