Jun 16, 2019

Fathers working in the private sector may soon be entitled to three days paternity leave.

The Human Resources Ministry says under its proposal, the cost would be borne by employers.

It told the Malay Mail that the Cabinet has yet to approve the proposal, and the government is not expected to make the necessary amendments to the Employment Act in the next Parliament meeting next month.

Meanwhile, the Women's Aid Organisation says it should be 7 days, similar to the entitement for civil servants.

Also, the Malaysian Employers Federation says it's open to giving employees such leave, but only if it's funded by SOCSO or the Employment Insurance System.
