Back to our golden days of tin?

May 02, 2019

The government is planning to revive the tin mining industry in Malaysia.

There has been no large scale tin mining activities in the country for the past 40 years, so huge deposits have built up all over the country.

The Water, Land and Natural Resources Ministry says the price of tin can reach up to 20 thousand US Dollars per tonne, and believes it will attract industry players.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says the government's priority is to give jobs to Malaysians, but when they refuse, foreigners have to be brought in.

He adds, the reason for the influx of foreigners in Malaysia is because locals refuse to work in the 3D sector - which stands for Dirty, Dangerous and Difficult.

Fuzi Harun's second-in-command to replace him

Deputy IGP Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador will likely be made the next IGP, when incumbent Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun retires in a day or two.

Abdul Hamid made headlines in 2015 when he was transferred to the Prime Minister's Department, at the height of the 1MDB investigation.
