News Wrap-up: Malaysians are bigger bookworms that Singaporans

Malaysians love to buy fiction books!

A recent study by Polish e-commerce firm Picodi found about 70 percent of us prefer that genre, with thrillers and romance the top choices. 

It also found that books on hobbies and non-fiction are well liked among M'sians.

Meanwhile, than 70 percent of Malaysians bought at least one book over the past year, compared to about 50 percent in Singapore.

You should attend skill training courses, if you want to earn a higher salary!

The HR Minister says workers who have the right skills, can boost their salary by 20 percent.

He adds that any M'sian who can read and write, is eligible to attend skills training courses at Technical Vocational Educational Training, or TVET institutes.

He adds we're lagging behind Singapore, as less than a third of the total Malaysian workforce is skilled, compared to Singapore's 50 percent skilled workforce.

The prime minister is not worried that the approval rating for him and Pakatan Harapan has dropped in a recent poll

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says Pakatan Harapan still has several years to address public dissatisfaction.

Tun M also blamed the previous govt, saying it's wrongdoings have constrained his administraion. 

Last week, a Merdeka Centre poll revealed that Tun M's approval rating as Prime Minister had dropped to 46 percent from a high of 71 percent in August last year.

Japanese Emperor Akihito has declared his abdication in a historic ceremony in Tokyo.

He was given permission to abdicate after saying he felt unable to fulfil his role because of his age and declining health.

The 85-year-old is the first Japanese monarch to stand down in more than 200 years.
