Departure Tax only for flights out of Malaysia - not cars, or bikes, or cruise ships
Apr 11, 2019
The Finance Ministry has confirmed the Departure Levy will only be imposed on flights out of the country, and not other modes of transport, for now.
It was addressing concerns about the bill's wording, which did not specify the word "flying", nor the exact levy.
The Deputy Finance Minister said the Cabinet will decide on the levy at a later date.
In Budget 2019, the government had proposed a departure tax of RM20 to ASEAN countries, and RM40 for non-ASEAN countries.

Najib to face music for breaching Parliament embargo on White Paper
Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is in trouble again, this time for failing to keep a secret.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is not impressed with Najib for breaking the embargo on the Felda White Paper.
Najib shared parts of the embargoed white paper on his Facebook page two days ago, to defend the purchase of a stake in an Indonesian company.
The Economic Affairs Minister has also filed a motion against Najib in Parliament for breaking the embargo.

Law Minister says Sabah and Sarawak may have to wait another 60 years for another shot at equal status
The de-facto Law Minister has defended the government's proposed amendment to the constitution to make Sabah and Sarawak equal partners in the Federation of Malaya.
In responding to claims that the proposed amendments were done in haste, Datuk Liew Vui Keong said MPs from East Malaysia were given plenty of time to deliberate.
He said, a memorandum on the amendment was given to both Sabah and Sarawak state governments two months ago for feedback.
The Pakatan government's first attempt at the amendment in Parliament failed two days ago, when the Opposition bloc refused to vote.
Datuk Liew said it took 43 years to bring the amendment to the Parliament, and it might take just as long for the second try.
