Seafood lovers advised to cut back on eating shellfish

A marine biologist has advised seafood lovers to cut back on eating shellfish, especially those sourced from several places in the west coast of the peninsular.

The lecturer from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu found traces of heavy metals like mercury and lead, in waters along river mouths and ports along the Straits of Melaka.

The contamination affects the food sources of shellfish in these areas, and as a result, they themselves could become contaminated.

As such, he urged authorities to take tough action against those responsible for polluting our waters.
