Lower car prices soon?

The government is considering collecting lower excise duties for vehicles, which would mean lower car prices.

It says this may reduce revenue for the government, but it can be compensated by a larger sales volume.

The International Trade and Industry Ministry says such a move would be a win-win situation for Malaysians, industry players and the government.

WAO supports move to criminalise stalking

The Women's Aid Organisation has welcomed the government's proposal to criminalise stalking.

WAO's Advocacy and Communications Officer, Tan Heang Lee says stalking needs to be nipped in the bud.

"There was a research done at the University of Toronto, and they found that stalking can cause major mental health consequences. This includes anxiety, depression, symptoms of post-traumatic disorder and so on. Stalking also often escalates to more severe forms of violence such as murder."

She says the move will address loopholes in the law as it will have the potential to protect victims.

Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister's department Datuk Liew Vui Keong said the government has started early discussions on enacting anti-stalking laws.
