Kovai Sarala is an Indian actress and comedian who frequently appears in supporting roles in Tamil and Telugu movies.

Kovai Sarala has come a long way since her first significant role in Mundhanai Mudichu (1983), from the renowned "pazham" humour in Karakattakaran to being the cornerstone for horror-comedy movies after a career-defining performance in the Muni franchise. It surprises when to hear her speak about her lack of confidence in playing a serious character, like the one in Prabhu Solomon's most recent film, Sembi, in which she also stars. She is such an accomplished actor with hundreds of films under her belt and numerous honours.
For her roles in Sathi Leelavathi (1995), Poovellam Un Vasam (2001), and Uliyin Osai, she has received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award three times for Best Comedian (2008). For her performance in Kanchana (2011), she also received the Vijay Award for Best Comedian and two Nandi Awards for Best Female Comedian. She has performed alongside every notable comedian, including Brahmanandam, Goundamani, Senthil, Vadivelu, and Vivek.
